Garden design in Hampshire

Hampshire offers great opportunities for gardening.  Whether you live down on the coast or inland in the gently rolling countryside, the mild climate will allow you to grow a great selection of plants.

I can make that dream garden come true.  By guiding you on the plants that will successfully grow where you are.  Do not shy away from planting flowers that need some degree of maintenance as it is not so difficult to undertake the odd bit of pruning.  By mixing the range of plants in your garden, you will be able to gain in the length of flowering time as well as colour and texture.

For the hard landscaping I can offer designs created using CAD software, this will quickly deliver a model that will reflect all those elements that you wish to incorporate into your new garden. Changes in the layout  such as the size of the steps, the height of the wall or fence, can be delivered quickly and that final design be achieved in a relatively small amount of time.  No surprises are in store as that 3D imageagery will be exactly what you get and those seats will fit in as shown in the model.

Traditional Garden Design.2

We all can enjoy gardens planted many years ago today. The picture shows a view of Sheffield Park in Sussex in the autumn. Those who so carefully planted this landscape never lived to see what we do today. Today we crave for the instant garden and many splendid gardens can be given that extra push with specimen plants. But not on this scale. For those who wish to wait and then look back at the time that they first planted a tree the rewards are great. To make such an impact on the land is soul warming. So when you look to create a garden, think not just of the present, but the future enjoyment it will bring.

Contemporary Garden Design 2

Chelsea

Contemporary garden design can mean different things to different people. The dictionary states that it is ‘ belonging to the same time’. So lets take that as ‘the now’.

Materials used in the garden design can be the latest plastic, glass or metal finish, but also the use of timber and stone cut and shaped in a modern style.

The impression will be of a garden with minimal maintenance and of a limited palette of colours and plants. If we look back at the ancient gardens of the Far East we can also see the same approach. However, today we often see a lack of detail and this is what sets us apart from the ageless beauty of the Orient.

Contemporary Garden Design

Garden design has come a long way in recent years and we now have a plethora of books on contemporary garden design. But I reckon that there are still some ground rules to apply when going for a ‘modern’ look to your garden. You cannot get away from the fact that the choice of plants will have to suit your soil, site and weather conditions. Choosing particular plants because they look good in a picture that you have seen is not the right way to go about it. But whatever style that you like it can be matched with careful selection of plants. Take grasses for instance, some like it dry, others require moisture - so you can still get that all important ‘look’, but in the knowledge that they will survive and flourish next year and the year after.

Barry has extensive knowledge of plants and landscaping with a variety of different, stylish and individual materials that will give you a contemporary garden all of your own. Why not following the links below and get some ideas.

Cottage Garden Design

portfolio_cottagegardens_2.jpg

Cottage gardens conjure up small gardens full to the brim of plants, so much so that the plants dominate the garden - and why not. Mix every colour and shape and pack them all into a small space to create a sense of fun. These gardens will make you happy! Somewhere to potter about in and loose yourself for a while. All those little nooks and crannies to hide gardening objects, like those that you see in the small Chelsea Flower Show gardens. Stuff like old bikes, wheelbarrows, pots, boots - why I even found a old sink being used where the taps still were connected.

So why not see just how much you can pack into a small space and garden inn miniature. It might be small but that certainly does not mean that the lack of space will dent the thrill of a cottage garden. Give Barry a call or see his website for some ideas on what to do with a small space

Traditional Garden Design

Titsey Place, Surrey

Great Britain is known for its tradition of gardening and love of landscapes and plants. There are many parks and landscapes that stand on their own with many thousands of visitors enjoying the mature gardens that were designed and constructed many years ago. Without such settings the splendid houses and palaces of the UK and Europe would be missing a vital element and be much poorer for it.

It is important that these gardens are maintained and also allowed to develop when plants have been lost. Careful planning and management of such gardens is important and should be entrusted to professionals, so that costly mistakes are avoided and the fragile environment of the garden is maintained for the benefit of generations to come, so they too can enjoy these special places.

Why not view the links below and seek out professional horticultural advice from Barry Holdsworth, who has many years experience in caring for such traditional gardens.

Garden Management

dropsonleaf.jpg

It is important how you manage a garden that is staffed in order to maintain the health of the garden, its plants and features in both a timely manner and one that will allow the garden to mature and flourish.

There are many costs associated with managing a garden e.g. the staff, machinery, buildings, plants and consumables. In order to maximise this investment a professional will offer a variety of services to assist in managing these costs. Barry Holdsworth can facilitate improvements in the processes and workings of the garden by using a range of diagnostic and benchmarking techniques. The results from this management process will then provide an opportunity to improve the elements of the garden that have been chosen. These findings will allow an intelligent control on the expenditure for present and future budgetary requirements.

Garden Machinery

The use of machinery in the maintenance of gardens has revolutionised the way in which they are now managed. Improvements in the quality of finish run in parallel with substantial improvements in efficiency.
There are many different machines for the various tasks within the maintenance schedule and the consultancy is able to select the most appropriate machine for the job.

When considering the purchase of machinery it is necessary not only to evaluate its suitability for a given task but also its worth as a capital investment. An assessment of machinery usage will ascertain if the option of hiring or leasing would be more cost effective. Recommendations will be based on sourcing the most appropriate machine from a wide range of suppliers and brands.
